L'Isle sur la Sorgue (84) : presentation
The small town of Isle-sur-Ia-Sorgue has been nicknamed "Provencal Venice" : due to Sorgue river with canals and islands dividing the city.
The interior decoration of the church and the 18th century hospital are very beautiful.
lsle-sur-Ia-Sorgue is now very famous for antiques and art market. Every Sunday, people come from fir afield to bargain-hunt at the flea market where second hand dealers and antique dealers sell all sorts of goods ranging from furniture, paintings, silverware, toys, weapons, clocks, old papers and magazines and other curios. The market consists of five ''villages'' - the antique dealers: round the station, Béchard area, the station platform and François courtyard. Over two hundred antique and second hand dealers have grouped together and opened up shops in all sorts of places around the town: disused warehouses, stagecoach-houses, disused factories ...
Twice a year, at Easter and on August 15th, the Salon des Antiquaires et la Foire à la Brocante (Antique and Bric-à-Brac Fair) are held in the town and attract bargain-hunters and professionals from all over France. |
